RESOLUTION AND THE PROVISIONS IiEREOF .
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Tn accordance with the provisions of Section 8
of the City Charter (Chapter 10847, Laws of Florida, 1925, as
amended), a nonpartisan primary election is hereby diractPd to be
held in the City of Miami, Florida, at the polling places
designated on the list attached her.?to and male a part hereof and
referred to as Exhibit No. 1 on Tuesday, 'November 5, 1985 from
7 : 0 0 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. for the purpose of nominating
candidates for the offices of Mayor and two Commissioners of. the
City of. Miami to be each voted upon at the general municipal
election which is to be held, as provided in said Section 8 of.

Section 2. A general municipal election is hereby directed
to be held in the City of Miami at the polling places designated

in said Exhibit No. 1. from 7.00 A.M. until. 7-00 P.M. on Tuesday,
November 12, 1985, for the purpose of a Mayor and two
Commissioner!; of the City of Miami unless a candidate from each
group shall have received a majority in his or her group at the
nonpartisan primary election held on November 5, 1985.
Section 3. The candidate who shall receive the highest
number of votes in Group T shall. serve as Mayor for a term of two
(2) years from 12:00 o'clock noon of the date after the canvass
of the vote and the declaration of the result of said general
election; the candidates who shall receive the highest number of
votes in Groups TV and V shall serve as Commissioners of the City
of Miami for a period of four ( 4 ) years from 12 :00 o'clock noon
of the day after the canvass of the vote and the declaration of
the result of said general election.
Section 4. The Election Clerks and Inspectors to serve at
said polling places on said date shall be designated by the
Supervisor of Elections for Metropolitan Dade County, Florida for
such purpose.
Section 5. For the purpose of enabling persons to register
who are qualified to vote in said elections and who have not
registered under_ the provisions of the general laws of Florida
and Chapter 16 of the Code of the City of Miami or who have
transferred their legal residence from one voting precinct to
another voting precinct in the City, they may register at such
permanent branch offices as may be approved by the Supervisor of
Elections of Metropolitan Dade County and at said Supervisor's
office which will be open during the following dates and time:

1444 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida
Monday to Friday, inclusive: 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
In addition to the above, said qualified person may register
at branch offices and may also use any mobile registration van
for the purpose of registration in order to vote in the herein
described elections during such times and on SLIch dates as may be

designated by the Supervisor of Elections for Metropolitan Dade
County.
Section 6. Said elections shall hP h e I d •at the voting

Dade County, in conformity with the provisiom5 (-)F the general
laws of the state. A description Df the registration hooks .and

within the City and which the City is adopting and desires to use.
Eor holding such elections is as f.rallows: Al.l re(li.stration
cards, hooks, records and certificates pertaining to electors of
the City and established and maintained as official by the
Supervisor of Elections of Metropolitan Dade County, in
conformity with the provisions of the general laws of the state,
are hereby adopted and declared to be, and shall her.eaf.ter be
recognized and accepted as, official registration cards, books,
records and certificates of the City.
Section 7. The ballot to be used in said elections shall be
so prepared that the names of the qualified candidates will
appear on said ballot in alphabetical order_ according to surname
in each group; provided, however, that the ballot and its
preparation shall comply with the laws of the State of Florida
with respect to absentee ballots, and to the use of mechanical
voting machines or the Computer Election System (CES).
Section 8. In compliance with Florida Statutes, the City
Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to publish notice of the
adoption of the herein resolution and of the provisions hereof at
least twice, once in the fifth week and once in the third week
prior to the week in which the aforesaid election is to be held,
in the following newspapers which are published within the City
of Miami, Florida:

TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1985,
PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION NO. 85-
A nonpartisan primary election will he held on Tuesday,
November 5, 1985 from 7:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.44., in the City
of Miami, Florida, at the polling places set forth herein,
at which election the qualified electors participating
therein will vote for the nomination of candidates for the
office of Mayor and two Commissioners of the City of Miami,
to be each voted on at the general municipal election which
is to be held on the second Tuesday after_ the First Monday
in November of 1985, unless in the primary election a
candidate from a group receives a majority vote in his or
her group, in which case he or she shall be elected to the
office of the group for which he or she is a candidate.
(b) The Election Clerks and Inspectors to serve at said polling
places on said dates shall be those designated by the

Supervisor of Elections for Metropolitan Dade County for
such purpose. The registration books and records for the
registration of persons qualified to vote in said elections
shall be those maintained by the Supervisor of Elections for
Metropolitan Dade County.
(c) The official ballot shall be in substantially the following

(d) In the event a general municipal election is required to be

Section 9. MATTY HIRAI, the city Clerk of the City of. Miami
is hereby designated and appointed as the official representative
of the City Commission in all. transactions with the Supervisor. of
Elections of Dade County in relation to matters pertaining to the
use of the registration books for holdin-g the her( -in nonpartisan
primary election and the herein general election.
Section 10. The City Clerk shall cause to be prepared
absentee ballots for the use of absentee electors entitled to
cast such ballots in said election.
Section 11. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and
directed to cause a certified copy for this resolution to be
delivered forthwith to the Supervisor of Elections for
Metropolitan Dade County.
