HOLSHOUSER 53 4230 INGRAHA:•1 HIGH'-OAY COCONUT GROVE FL 33133 Sergio Periera, City !4anager City of Miami Pan American Drive Coconut Grove, FL 33133 Dear Mr. Periera: It has come to my attention that the lease proposal for the Glass House in Peacock Park was on the agenda for the Sept. 26 Commission Meeting. I was not aware that this item was on the agenda, as I was not notified, and I was out of town for the period of time beginning Sept. 19, so I was not present to go over the agenda on the day of the meeting, as I usually do. In speaking with two members of the commission, I have round that they assumed that•I was in favor of this lease, since I was not there to raise any objections. In point of fact, I am not in favor of this lease, specifically, or of any other use of this or any city facility, in this manner. I believe that the public record should reflect the various arguments which may be raised regarding several issues involved in this lease, and I would appreciate an opportunity to appear before the commission at the earliest date possible. May I assure you that I will inform the Chamber of Commerce in Coconut Grove of the time and date of any appearance I make as soon as I am scheduled; it is not ever my wish to have any matter discussed without the knowledge and participation of all interested parties. Sincerely, , Joanne H. Holshouser ri , coconut rove civic club po box 381 coconut grove Florida 33133 October 10, 1985 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 To The Mayor and City Commissioners: The Board of the Coconut Grove Civic Club has asked me to re-interate their position taken at their January 1985 meeting at which the possible use of the Glass House was discussed after meeting with members of the Chamber of Commerce. The Boards position remains the same. Some of our members were involved in its very beginings many years ago as a gathering place for the people of Coconut Grove. It is located in heavily - used Peacock Park which continues as a focal point for the Grove 3 and all of Dade County during its many festivals and activities. If there is any need for up -keep then we believe as tax -payers that it is the domain of the City of Miami to maintain its parks. There should be no intrusion of business or private uses in our public parks. To allow the Chamber of Commerce to have their office in OUR PUBLIC PARK BUILDING would set a dangerous precedent for all our park system! Public parks are for citizens and tourists not for use as offices over -looking Biscayne Bay. We have spoken against this type of usage earlier this year and our views remain the same.Thank you.
