Resolution Allocating
$45,000 for "The Super-
stars of 1986"
October 10, 1985, City
Commission Meeting
"It is recommended that $45,000 be
allocated from Special Programs and
Accounts, Contingent Fund, for "The
Superstars of 1986" conditioned
upon: one or more events being held
within the City of Miami; the City
of Miami being recognized and named
as a sponsor; the City of Miami
having an equal role in the
determination of all publicity and
releases prepared for national
broadcast; and matching or greater
amounts being contributed by Metro -
Dade County and the City of Miami
Beach, per the attached resolu-
tion".
BACKGROUND:
"The Superstars" has been produced by Candid Productions for the
past thirteen (13) years. The event has been held in Greater
Miami the past five years. Previously, the Metro -Dade Tourist
Development Council (TDC) has fully funded the event. However,
as the creation of the Greater Miami Convention Consortium has
been funded in part by monies previously allocated to the TDC,
that group has no longer been able to carry the full burden of
funding "The Superstarts". Last year, the City helped to fill
this void by allocating $42,500 in support of this event.
"The Superstars" is watched by approximately 14 million televi-
sion viewers annually across the country. It offers the
opportunity for promoting the positive aspects of the City of
Miami on a nationwide scale. This year, the producers of the
show have requested a $45,000 grant to be conditioned upon the
same terms as last year:
f
1. One or more events must be held within the City of
