HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-85-1091J-85-1053 RESOLUTION NO. � A RESOLUTION CO -DESIGNATING SOUTH 8TH STREET BETWEEN SOUTHWEST 27 AVENUE AND BISCAYNE BAY AS "CALLS OCHO"; REQUESTING DADE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TO MAKE AND I14STALL STREET IDENTIFICATION SIGNS; AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD THIS RESOLUTION TO AFFECTED AGENCIES. WHEREAS, South 8 Street between S.W. 27 Avenue and Biscayne Bay is commonly known and referred to within the community as Calle Ocno; and WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has formally requested the City to change the designation of South 8tn Street between S.W. 27 Avenue and Biscayne Bay to Calle Ocno; and WHEREAS, the proposed co -designation was discussed and endorsed by the City's Plat and Street Committee on September 4, 1985; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. South 8tn Street between Southwest 27 Avenue and Biscayne Bay is hereby co -designated as "Calle Ocho". Section 2. Dade County Department of Public Works is requested to make and install street identification signs on Soutn 8th Street between S.W. 27 Avenue and Biscayne Bay bearing the dual designation of South 8th Street and Calle Ocno. Section 3. The City Clerk is authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Dade County Department of Public Works, the U.S. Postal Service and other affected City or County agencies. South 8 Street between S.W. 27 Avenue and Biscayne Bay is commonly known and referred to as Calle Ocho. The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has formally requested the City to officially change the designation of this portion of S. 8 Street to Calle Ocho. A copy of the Kiwanis Club letter is attached. On September 4, 1985 the Plat and Street Committee of the City of Miami recommended that this portion of S. 8 Street be co -designated as "Calle Ocho". If the City Commission adopts the proposed resolution, the Dade County Department of Public Works will be requested to make and install street identification signs on S. 8 Street between S.W. 27 Avenue and Biscayne Bay bearing the dual designation of South 8 Street and Calle Ocho. The City Clerk will be authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of the resolution to the Dade County Department of Public Works, the U. S. We feel that the change is coiri- patible with general use, the desire of the couirnunity, the Latin Quarter project and the festival itself.
