A RESOLUTION RATIFYING, APPROVING AND
CONFIRMING THE DONATION OF DESIGNATED
PERSONNEL GEAR AND CLOTHING WHICH ARE NO
LONGER IN USE BY CITY FIREFIGHTERS TO THE
CITY OF BOGOTA, COLOMBIA, A SISTER CITY OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FOR USE OR DISTRIBUTION BY
THAT CITY TO AID THE PEOPLE OF COLOMBIA IN
THEIR EFFORT TO RECOVER FROM THE RECENT
NATURAL DISASTER WHICH STRUCK THE COUNTRY;
APPROVING THE CITY'S FUTURE DONATION OF
SIMILAR SURPLUS GEAR AND CLOTHING FOR THE
SAME PURPOSE WHEN SUCH GEAR AND CLOTHING
BECOME AVAILABLE; FURTHER COMMENDING
FIREFIGHTING INNOVATIONS, INC, A MIAMI FIRM,
WHICH HAS ANNOUNCED ITS INTENTION TO DONATE
TO THE CITY OF MIAMI 25 USED COMPLETE HIGH
PRESSURE AIR PROTECTIVE BREATHING UNITS WITH
10 ADDITIONAL SPARE CYLINDERS TO BE
DISTRIBUTED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI IN
FURTHERANCE OF THE HEREIN RELIEF EFFORT.
WHEREAS, as a result of the recent natural disaster which
occurred in Colombia, the Colombian Embassy has requested the
City of Miami Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services
to donate any available protective firefighters' clothing for use
or distribution by or through Bogota, Colombia, a Sister City of
the City of Miami, to assist the Country of Colombia in its
efforts to recover from the said disaster; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Department of Fire, Rescue and
Inspection Services has a quantity of personnel gear and clothing
which is no longer in City use, and which has limited, if any,
resale value due to nonconformance of said equipment with federal
safety regulations; and
WHEREAS, the donation of this gear and clothing will benefit
the citizens of Colombia and inure to the benefit of the City of
Miami due to the good will engendered by said donation; and
WHEREAS, the City Charter permits the City to make such
d ispos it ion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The donation of the following personnel gear
and clothing: 61 bunker pants; 56 bunker coats; 4 pairs of boots
and 50 pairs of gloves, which are no longer
in use by City

Firefighters, to the City of Bogota? Colombia, a sister city of
the City of Miami, for use or distribution by that city to aid
the people of Colombia in their effort to recover from the recent
natural disaster which struck the country is hereby ratified,
approved and confirmed. In addition, the future donation by the
City of similar surplus gear and clothing for the same purpose is
hereby approved when such gear and clothing become available.
j Section 2. The City of Miami hereby commends
Firefighters Innovations, Inc. , a Miami Firm for its announced
intention to donate to the City of Miami 25 used complete high
pressure air protective breathing units with 10 additional
cylinders to be distributed by the City of Miami in furtherance
of the herein relief effort.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of November, 1985.
