Co -designating N. 62 Street
as Dr. Martin Luther King
Boulevard
(For Commission Meeting of
December 19, 1985)
It is recommended that a resolution
be adopted co -designating North 62
Street between I-Q5 and Biscayne
Bay as "Dr. Martin Luther King
Boulevard".
N.W. 62 Street west of I-95 has been designated as Dr. Martin
Luther King Boulevard. The Tacolcy Economic Development
Corporation, through its president Mr. Otis Pitts, Jr., has
requested that the portion of North 62 Street from I-95 to
Biscayne Boulevard be similarly re -named. This request was
forwarded to the City by County Commissioner Barbara M. Carey.
Copies of these letters are attached. On December 4 , 1985 , the
Plat and Street Committee of the City of Miami recommended that
this portion of North 62 Street be co -designated as "Dr. Martin
Luther King Boulevard".
If the City Commission adopts the proposed resolution, the Dade
County Department of Public Works will be requested to make and
install street identification signs on N. 62 Street between I-95
and Biscayne Bay bearing the dual designation of North 62 Street
and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. The City Clerk will be
authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of the
resolution to the Dade County Department of Public Works, the
U.S. Postal Service and other affected City and County agencies.
