S -1229 A RESOLUTION CO -DESIGNATING NORTH 62ND STREET BETWEEN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY - I-95 AND N.E. 2ND AVENUE, AND N.E. 61ST STREET BETWEEN N.E. 2ND AVENUE AND BISCAYNE BAY AS "DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING BOULEVARD"; REQUESTING DADE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TO MAKE AND INSTALL STREET IDENTIFICATION SIGNS BEARING SUCH DUAL DESIGNATION; AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD THIS RESOLUTION TO AFFECTED AGENCIES. WHEREAS, Northwest 62nd Street between 1-95 and West City Limits is designated as "Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard"; and WHEREAS, the Tacolcy Economic Development Corporation has formally requested the City to change the designation of the traveled thoroughfare of North 62nd Street between I-95 and Biscayne Boulevard to Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard; and WHEREAS, the proposed co -designation was discussed and endorsed by the City's Plat and Street Committee on w_ December 4, 1985; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: _ Section 1. North 62nd Street between Interstate Highway I-95 and N.E. 2nd Avenue, and N.E. 61st Street between N.E. 2nd Avenue and Biscayne Bay is hereby co -designated as "Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard". Section 2. Dade County Department of Public Works is requested to make and install street identification signs bearing the dual designation of the thoroughfare(s) as set forth in Section 1 hereof. x iU •Y. Odio `� I �` � City Manager ENCLOSURES: .J Co -designating N. 62 Street as Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard (For Commission Meeting of December 19, 1985) It is recommended that a resolution be adopted co -designating North 62 Street between I-Q5 and Biscayne Bay as "Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard". N.W. 62 Street west of I-95 has been designated as Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. The Tacolcy Economic Development Corporation, through its president Mr. Otis Pitts, Jr., has requested that the portion of North 62 Street from I-95 to Biscayne Boulevard be similarly re -named. This request was forwarded to the City by County Commissioner Barbara M. Carey. Copies of these letters are attached. On December 4 , 1985 , the Plat and Street Committee of the City of Miami recommended that this portion of North 62 Street be co -designated as "Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard". If the City Commission adopts the proposed resolution, the Dade County Department of Public Works will be requested to make and install street identification signs on N. 62 Street between I-95 and Biscayne Bay bearing the dual designation of North 62 Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. The City Clerk will be authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of the resolution to the Dade County Department of Public Works, the U.S. Postal Service and other affected City and County agencies.
