HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-85-1232I R J-85-1152 11/27/85 RESOLUTION NO. `123 A RESOLUTION AMENDING SECTION 1 OF RESOLUTION 85-1082 ADOPTED OCTOBER 24, 1985 WHICH AUTHORIZED EMPLOYMENT OF SPECIAL COUNSEL TO EACH OF TWO CITY BOARDS BY SUBSTITUTING THE NAME OF MARK A. VALENTINE, ESQ., IN THE PLACE OF GEORGE F. KNOX, ESQ., AS SPECIAL COUNSEL TO THE CIVIL SERVIC9 BOARD. WHEREAS, Resolution 85-1082 adopted on October 24, 1985 provided for employment of George F. Knox, Esq., to serve as special counsel to the Civil Service Board; and WHEREAS, Mr. Knox has declined so to serve and the former Assistant City Attorney, Mark A. Valentine, Esquire, has indicated a willingness to so serve; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1: Section 1 of Resolution 85-1082, adopted October 24, 1985, which authorized employment of special counsel to each of two City boards is hereby amended in the following particulars:1 "Section 1. The retention of the following attorneys, as recommended by the City Attorney, to serve as special counsel to the Civil Service Board and to the Code Enforcement Board, is hereby approved with compensation for the services of said attorneys being hereby allocated from budgeted funds of said Boards and the services of said attorneys are hereby authorized to commence upon the negotiation and execution of contracts acceptable to the City Attorney, subject to the availability of funds. 1 Words and/or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Knox, Esquire, as Special Counsel to the Civil Service Board, Mr. Knox declined to serve. We. are now recommending that you adopt the attached resolution which will authorize our employment of Mark A. Valentine, Esquire, former Assistant City Attorney, to act as Special Counsel.. Also attached is an ordinance appropriating funds for the compensation of both Mr. Valentine and Mr. Alan Rosenthal, Esquire, the latter of whom will serve as Special Counsel to the Code Enforcement Board. Funds in the total amount of $60,000 are being appropriated to the appropriate Boards to provide compensation for each counsel in an amount not to exceed $30,000.
