HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-86-0026J-85-1185 RESOLUTION NO. 86-26 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BID OF M. VILA AND ASSOCIATES, INC. IN THE PROPOSED AMOUNT OF $639,622.00, TOTAL BASE BID OF THE PROPOSAL, FOR LOCAL DRAINAGE PROJEC E-55 WITH MONIES THEREFOR ALLOCATED FROM THE "LOCAL DRAINAGE PROJECTS" ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF $639,622.00 TO COVER THE CONTRACT COST; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH SAID FIRM. WHEREAS, sealed bids were received November 21, 1985 for LOCAL DRAINAGE PROJECT E-55; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of Public Works recommend that the bid received from M. Vila and Associates, Inc. be accepted as the lowest responsible and responsive bid; and WHEREAS, the Capital Improvements Appropriation Ordinance No. 9939, as amended, was adopted on December 20, 1984, and monies are available for the proposed amount of the contract, project expense, incidentals and indirect cost from the account entitled "Local Drainage Projects", as set forth under Section 5.6. Storm Sewers .6 of said ordinance; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The November 21, 1985 bid of M. Vila and Associates, Inc. in the proposed amount of $639,622.00 for the project entitled LOCAL DRAINAGE PROJECT E-55 total base bid of the proposal, is hereby accepted at the price stated therein. Section 2. The amount of $639,622.00 is hereby allocated from the "Local Drainage Projects" account to cover the cost of said contract. ENCLOSURES: Bids were received on November 21, 1985 for "Local Drainage Project - E-5511. The lowest responsible bid, from M. Vila & Associates, Inc., was in the amount of $639,622.00; the original engineer's estimate had been $800,000.00. The project had been advertised for bids on October 31. At the time of advertisement, liquidated damages were set in the specifications as $300 per calendar day. The company that will be awarded a contract for this project has done previous satisfactory work for the City. It would be unfair, for all concerned, to try to change the provisions in the specifications or to reject all bids and readvertise. Odio IFor Commission Meeting of City Manager ENCLOSURESDecember 19, 1985) : It is recommended that a resolution be adopted accepting the low bid of M. Vila and Associates, Inc. for the LOCAL DRAINAGE PROJECT E-55 received November 21, 1985 in the amount of $639,622.00 and authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract on behalf of the City. Bids were received November 21, 1985 for LOCAL DRAINAGE PROJECT E- 55. As reflected in the tabulation of bids, the $639,622.00 bid of M. Vila and Associates, Inc. is the lowest responsible bid for the total bid of the proposal. Funds have been allocated under the "Local Drainage Projects" account and monies are available for the estimated amount of the contract, for project expense, for such items as advertising, testing laboratories, and postage. Nineteen contractors picked up plans and specifications (minority contractors: 8 hispanic, 2 blacks); 6 contractors submitted bids (minority contractors: 2 hispanic, 1 black).
