CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA
INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM 7
Honorable Mayor and Members
of the City Commission
DATE: F E B 6 1966
FILE:
SUBJECT: Award of Bid for Animal Feed
and Supplements - Police Department
FROM: REFERENCES:
Cesar H. Odio
City Manager ENCLOSURES:
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE AWARD BE MADE
AND A RESOLUTION BE PASSED ACCEPTING THE
MOST ADVANTAGEOUS BIDS AS RECEIVED FROM
J & L FEED AND SUPPLY COMPANY IN THE AM-
OUNT OF $31,830.12 TO PROVIDE ANIMAL FEED
AND SUPPLEMENTS FOR BOTH THE MOUNTED
PATROL AND K-9 UNITS, AND HECTOR SUPPLY
COMPANY TO PROVIDE THE K-9 UNITS WITH
ADDITIONAL FEED IN THE AMOUNT OF $679.25.
The Mounted Patrol and K-9 units continue to represent integral components of the
Department of Police's comprehensive program of law enforcement and crime preven-
tion. Currently, the Mounted Patrol (composed of twenty-two horses) provides for
an effective and visible police presence in eight (8) areas of the City of Miami.
The K-9 unit, (composed of twenty-three dogs) which serves the entire city, has
been most successful in such areas as robbery and drug smuggling investigations as
well as in providing protection for our police officers.
Pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received on October 7, 1985, to provide
animal feed and supplements to these two units.
The company J & L Feed and Supply Company was determined to be the lowest and most
responsive bidder for ten of the thirteen items required for both the Mounted Pat-
rol and K-9 units. Hector Supply Company was the lowest bidder for three of thir-
teen items and we are requesting they be awarded a contract for such.
Funds are available from the Fiscal Year 1985-1986 Police Operating Budget.
