HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-86-0227J-86-141 02/04/86 RESOLUTION NO-- 86 - 2 2 7 A RESOLUTION APPOINTING AN INDIVIDUAL TO SERVE AS AAUTHORITY.MEMBEROF THE MIAMI SPORTS AND EXHIBITION WHEREAS, on July 280 1983 the City Commission unanimously approved Ordinance No. 9662 which created the Miami • Sports and ter 52. Exhibition Authority (Chapter 6 of the City code)and ; that WHEREAS, Section 212.057, Florida Statutes, req such an Authority be created as a condition precedent to the County adopting an ordinance levying the 34� Convention Development Tax on hotel rooms; and created Authority is responsible for the WHEREAS, the newly- proceedsf the tax which, by state statute, must be used administration and disbursementto o construct a new multi -purpose convention/coliseum/exhibition center or the maximum components thereof as funds permit" within the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Y Cit Code Section 52.6-3, the City Commission must appoint a replacement member for the position left vacant by Manuel D. Medina; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: appoints the Section 1. ENCLOSURES: It is recommended that .the City. Commission approve the at ed Resolution appointing an individual to. serve. as a -member of. the Miamiports and Exhibition �utFio�rity. On July 28, 1983, the City Commission unanimously approved an Ordinance creating the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority. (Chapter 52.6 of A � the City Code) . Section 212.057, Florida Statutes, requires that such an Authority be created as a condition precedent to the County enacting an ordinance levying the 34 Convention Development Tax on hotel rooms. This Author- ity shall be responsible for the administration and disbursement of the tax proceeds which, by state statute, • must be used to "construct a new multi -purpose convention/coliseum/exhibition center or the maximum com- ponents thereof as funds permit" within the City of Miami. On January 14, 1986, Manny Medina resigned his position on the Authority and as a result there is a vacancy. As a point of information Mayor Xavier L. Suarez suggests that Monty Trainer be appointed to serve on the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority to replace Manny Medina as per his letter of January 28, 1986 (copy attached) . Since Mr. Medina was former Mayor Maurice Ferre's appointment to the Sports Authority, I would like to appoint Monty Trainer to this position.
