Divem Assistant Vice President - Corporate & External Affairs Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Mayor and City Commissioners: Souftm Bell 666 N.W. 79th Avenue Room 664 Miami, Florida 33126 Phone (305) 263-2300 April 29, 1986 In February 1986 the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce actively embarked on bringing Naval ships to the City of Miami as a port of call. Toward that end the assistance of City Manager Cesar Odio was solicited. It is largely through the City Administration's efforts that I am requesting formal approval of the City Commission to actively move forward on this project. The Chamber has undertaken to establish a Host Committee that will solicit ship visitation and issue proper hosting upon arrival. My purpose in requesting an appearance at the May 7, 1986 City Commission meeting is to request that the City conduct the maintenance dredging of the FEC slip, install the necessary Dolphin piers and provide utility hook ups. Through discussions with your staff it has been established that this will cost approximately $225,000-250,000. The economic benefit of this effort is obvious and the berthing of Naval ships at Bicentennial Park will provide an added attraction to downtown Miami. I look forward to your active support of this viable project. Sincerely, Chairman Military Affairs Committee cc: Cesar H. Odio, City Manager H. C. Eads, Jr., Asst. City Manager AC/1H Company
