FOR THE; REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING NON-FUNCTIONING AND NON -REPAIRABLE HIGH PRESSURE BREATHING AIR COMPRESSOR ON AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEM NOW INSTALLED ON AIR TRUCK NO. 1 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES AT A TOTAL PROPOSED COST OF $13,313.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE FIRE BOND ACCOUNT ENTITLED PROTECTIVE BREATHING APPARATUS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE ASSISTANT CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THIS EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received April 2, 1986 for the replacement a High Pressure Breathing Air Compressor and Air Purification System to the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 17 potential suppliers and 1 bid was received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the Fire Bond Account entitled Protective Breathing Apparatus; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services for the purpose of replacing existing non-functioning, non -repairable system now installed on air Truck No. 1; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services recommend that the bid received from CompAir Mako, Inc. be accepted as the only responsible and responsive bid; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF 1,1IAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. This compressor package will be installed to replace the existing, non-function- ing and non -repairable system now installed on Air Truck 1. The existing package is an out -of -production nine year old German made Bauer unit. There presently exists a non -repairable problem (no parts available nor to be manufactured) with the 3rd and 4th high pressure stages. This retrofit project will utilize the ex- isting on -board diesel drive engine, thus reducing the overall cost of a complete engine/compressor retrofit by $4,000.00. Air Truck 1 is dispatched to most structural fire incidents for the purpose of re- filling the self contained breathing apparatus air cylinders for firefighting per- sonnel. At the present time, Air Truck 1 does not have filling capability due to the down compressor. We are currently shuttling air cylinders from Fire Station No. 1 (filled by the Station back-up compressor) or calling for mutual -aid from Dade County Fire at major fire incidents. Funding for this purchase is provided in the Fire Bond Account entitled Protective Breathing Apparatus, Project Code #313216-289401-850. This purchase is exempt from the current purchasing freeze.
