FLORIDA 29 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FROM. Cesar H. Odic, City Manager ,,o DATE February 17, 1986 FILE: SUBJECT Approval of Proposed Amendment Increasing Rates for Miami Convention Center Effective October 1, 1986 REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES. It is recommended that the proposed Amendment to Section 53-161 of the Code of the City of Miami which establishes new rates and fees for the Miami Convention Center be adopted accepting the recommended schedule of rents, rates, fees and charges, effective October 1, 1966. The purpose of the Ordinance is to increase rents, rates, fees and charges for use of the Miami Convention Center effective October 1, 1986. In accordance with the covenant of the Trust Indenture securing the Convention Center/Garage Revenue Bonds, Facility Management Group, Inc., contracted managers, acting as consultants for the Miami Convention Center, submitted to the City of Miami a suggested schedule of increase for rents, rates, fees and charges for the meeting rooms and Auditorium. Based on a review of the current rates, and comparative research compiled by Facility Management Group, Inc., it has been determined that these newly proposed rates will maintain our, attractiveness in the marketplace and assure the City of Miami of a more competitive posture with the other similar meeting facilities in the Greater Miami area (see Attachment: Comparable Meeting Room Rental Rates). Based on the estimated FY 85-86 meeting room rental income of approximately $346,500, the proposed 10% increase in rates would realize an additional $34,650 for FY 86-87. In addition, this proposal replaces the Floor Only rate for the Auditorium, thus providing greater use of the floor area for exhibitors, with a seating capacity of 2,748 within the first tier. We anticipate that the establishment of this $1,650 minimum rate, instead of the present rate of $600, will result in a substantial increase in revenue. Consequently, it is recommended that you adopt the proposed rate r^ increase.
