Miami is one of Pan Am's most important destinations worldwide
and for many years has been one of Pan Am's two major gateways
to and from the United States. Consequently, as you are no
doubt aware, we devote very substantial marketing and other
resources to dovolop the market far travtl to MiA01.4
Recently, it has come to our attention that there is a high
quality proposal for the development of Watson Island as a
showplace marine center for the southeastern United States.
We are sufficiently impressed with the concept and the important
role it would play in our worldwide marketing that I am
writing to offer to develop the island in a joint venture
controlled by Pan Am and including the current partners in Miami
Marine Exposition, Inc.
We have conducted a compprehensive evaluation of the Miami WMarine
e
proposal and the work whichbeencompleted

oeodate.
also worked out on a preliminary
joint venture agreement amongst Pan Am and the current partners
in Miami Marine Exposition, Inc.
With your concurrence, we would look forward to working out the
terms of a satisfactory lease with the city, so that we can
proceed with the full development of Watson Island. The project
would represent a new chapter in Pan Am's long history of
pioneering activity in Miami. We believe that the benefits
which the development will bring both to the City of Miami and
to Pan Am as an air carrier with a major commitment to the area
will make Watson Island a project of international importance.
