residents of the City of Miami.
The City purchased numerous parcels as part of the land acquisition
for the Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Project. Often
included in the purchase price of these parcels were the furnishings
they contained, but which the original owners were unwilling or unable
to remove. The Department of Development has contacted the City's
Purchasing Division in an effort to identify vendors that may be
interested in purchasing these furnishings. The Purchasing Division
and the Department of Development have met with limited success in
disposing of this surplus property because most of the furnishings are
not generally marketable and salvageable due to their poor condition.
All useable fixtures which can be utilized by the City have been
removed by the Department of General Services upon the City taking
possession of the property.
Several local charities and service organizations have indicated that
they may have use for these furnishings. Since it has been difficult
to secure buildings purchased by the City and it is feared that the
furnishings will rapidly disappear or be vandalized, the City of Miami
donated some of these furnishings to several charitable organizations.
Your permission is requested to allow these local charities and
service groups the opportunity to have the furnishings donated to
them.
