The Miami Job Development Program i enc;i.nq its third year under the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). The }grogram places economically disadvantaged persons, school dropouts, hl,ndi.capped and older workers• in jobs with local employers who agree to provide on-the-job trainin,? (OJT) for a period ranging from f.')ur to.ten weeks. Employers are reimbursed for 50% of the OJT wa<;es paid to program participants based on their agreement to retail+ as unsubsi6i,7ed employees, those who successfully c•:)mplete OJT. 10113 The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission Page 2 This year's program has placed to date 250 individuals in OJT. While some of these participants have not yet completed their training period, approximately 70% of those terminated already have been retained in unsubsidized employment for a minimum of 30 days. By the end ofthe�r_ogram year the grant's performance -based reimbursements are expected to meet all program costs. The amount of funding for the Office of Intergovernmental Liaison and the amount requested for the Miami Job Development Program were not determined until early May.
