PETITION 1. Per Resolution 86-164; February 27, 1986,
consideration of amending Ordinance 9500, as
amended, the zoning ordinance of the City of
Miami, by amending ARTICLE 20. GENERAL AND
SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS, Section 2026 Signs,
Specific Limitations and Requirements,
Subsection 2026.15.2.1.C. to specify that the
sign structure for general outdoor advertising
signs shall be in specified colors and that the
sign faces shall be back -to -lack at a maximum
horizontal angle of thirty (30 ) degrees.
REQUEST To permit billboards bask -to -back at a maximum
horizontal angle of 30 and to indicate the
color of the support structure.
BACKGROUND On February 27, 1986, the City Commission passed
Resolution 86-164, as follows:
A RESOLUTION REYERSING THE DECISION OF THE
ZONING BOARD AND THUS QUASHING THE ZONING
ADMINISTRATOR'S INTERPRETATION NO. AI-85-3,
"BILLBOARD SIGN FACES UNDER SECTION 2026 OF THE
ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, AS
AMENDED" AND FURTHER DIRECTING THE PLANNING
DEPARTMENT TO INITIATE AN AMENDMENT TO- ZONING
ORDINANCE NO. 9500 WHICH CONFORMS TO THE
COMMISSION'S INTENT AND INTERPRETATION OF
SECTION 2026 OF SAID ORDINANCE BY PERMITTING
ANGLED SIGN FACES ON ONE POLE.
ANALYSIS Allowing billboards to be installed b$ck-to-back
at a maximum horizontal angle of 30 optimizes
the legibility of the billboard to the motorist.
The requirement that the support structures be
of a subdued color lessens the impact of the
sign structure on the surrounding neighborhood.
