FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM 43 TO. The Honorable Mayor and Members DATEe JUL ' ; • 1986 ME: of the City Commission SUBJECT: Resolution to Seek Bids Miami Stadium Roof Repairs and Press Box FROM: Cesar H. Odio REFERENCES: Renovation 'UnUI City Manager ENCLOSURES: The adoption of the attached resolution will authorize the City Manager to advertise for, receive bids and award a contract(s) for replacing the roof and renovating the press box at Miami Baseball Stadium at a combined cost not to exceed $775,000. The roof of the Miami Baseball Stadium is in deteriorated and unsafe condition. The roof has never been repaired and has long outlived its designed life. The Miami Stadium press box, which dates back to 1949, has deteriorated from termite damage to such an extent that the front windows and frames could fall out into the stadium seating area below. The electric service is old and has reached an overload capacity. The flooring is unstable because of termite damage. Fire exits lead onto a deteriorated and unsafe roof walkway. The Administration feels that both the roof replacement and the press box renovation should be bid at the same time so that bidders can submit bids on either or both projects, and the City can select either one overall low bidder or award split bids whichever is most advantageous to the City. The cost of the combined project is estimated to be $775,000. The architectural firm of Glen Allen Buff Associates was selected to design the press box by Resolution 85-837 of July 25, 1985. The architect has completed plans and specifications for renovation of the Miami Baseball Stadium press box facilities. Plans and specifications for a new roof have been completed by the Department of Public Works. The Mayor and City Commission have recognized the value of having the Baltimore Orioles organization in Miami and have assured the Club's owner, Mr. Edward Bennett Williams, the Press Box and Roof repairs needed at Miami Stadium would be taken care of before their return in the Spring of 1987. 86-551. .
