CHO/ma/cr 86- 5464 CITY OF MIAM1, FLORIDA : %, * # I : - - ,. INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO. Mr. Cesar Odio City Manager FROM: Miller J . Dawkins Vice -Mayor DATE: June 19, 1986 FILE: SUBJECT: LIBERTY CITY EDUCATIONAL CENTER REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: By motion M-84-1366, the City Commission approved the concept of creating the Liberty City Educational Center --an outreach center for training and education of Black entrepeneurs. At that time, $500, 000 from the 1985 Community Development funds were earmarked for the development of this center. This was done with the provision that Metropolitan Dade County and the School Board would come up with $500, 000, each, in cash contribution of matching funds. Metropolitan Dade County and the School Board have not, as of yet, come up with any matching funds, but, Senator Carrie P. Meek was instrumental in obtaining $2.3 million for the Liberty City Educational Center from the State of Florida. Since the City has already agreed in principal to provide the $500, 000 and $2.3 million has been obtained from the State for the same purpose, and since the area of our City where the Center will operate has been neglected for quite some time, I am requesting that a resolution be drawn up to relea- se the $500, 000 earmarked for this purpose so that the Center can start operating as soon as possible. Please schedule this matter as an agenda item on the forthcoming Commission meeting. gf cc: Honorable Mayor 6 City Commission Members Honorable Senator Carrie P.
