A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $30,000.00 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS
AND ACCOUNTS, QUALITY OF LIFE FUND, TO
THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND
PUBLIC FACILITIES FOR THE "1986 CITY OF
MIAMI YOUTH BASEBALL WORLD SERIES";
FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE PROCUREMENT OF
NECESSARY ACCOMMODATIONS AND SERVICES
FOR SAID EVENT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Youth Baseball World Series
provides special athletic competition to the youth of the
community and attracts international teams to the area; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission, via Motion No. 86-368 of
May 7, 1986, expressed its intent to have the City provide
financial support for this competition; and
WHEREAS, the 1986 Youth Baseball World Series is planned for
August 10 through 16, 1986 at the Miami Marine Stadium; and
WHEREAS, funds in the amount of $30,000.00 is available in
Special Programs and Accounts, Quality of Life Fund; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department
of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities recommend that said
funds be utilized for the procurement of accommodations, meals,
transportation, security, playing field and trophies, and that
such procurement be authorized;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. An amount not to exceed $30,000.00 is hereby
allocated from Special Programs and Accounts, Quality of Life
Fund to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities
for the 1986 City of Miami Youth Baseball World Series to be held
at the Miami }Baseball Stadium August10-16, 1986.

$30,000.00 for Youth
Baseball World Series

It is recommended that a resolution be passed
in support of the "1986 City of Miami Youth
Baseball World Series" to be held august 11 -
16, 1986 at the Miami Baseball Stadium,
authorizing the procurement of necessary
accommodations and services for participating
teams; and allocating funds in an amount not
to exceed $30,000.00 from Special Programs
and Accounts Quality of Life Fund.
The City Commission, via Motion No. 86-368 of May 7, 1986,
expressed its intent to provide financial support for the "1986
City of Miami Youth Baseball World Series". The attached
resolution formalizes this action and will permit the Department
of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities to secure
accommodations; arrange meals and transportation, reserve the
playing field and purchase trophies. A proposed budget is
attached.
This is the Fifth Annual World Series for Youth Baseball, which
attracts teams from all over South America and the Caribbean.
This year six (6) teams wili participate, and the series is
expected to attract 25,000 spectators throughout the week. Teams
from Mexico, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and
Venezuela are scheduled to arrive in Miami on August 10, 1986.
These funds will also support Miami's own pony team in their
effort to reach the championship. For the first day of the
Series, admission to Miami Stadium will be free to the public.
Funding for the series is available in the 1985-86 Special
Programs and Accounts Quality of Life Fund.
