DOUGHERIY, CITY ATTORNEY RFC/rr/M199 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM To: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FRoM: Cesar H. C+dio City Manager DATE: V U L 18 19W PILE: SUBJECT: Resolution Allocating Additional Community Development Block Grant Funds to Social Service Agencies REFERENCES: commission Agenda Item July 24, 1986 ENCLOSURES: It is recommended that the City Commission adopts a resolution which allocates an addi- tional $304,500 of 12th Year Community Dev- elopment Block Grant Funds to social service agencies providing social service projects to City residents and further authorizes the City Manager to enter into agreements or amend existing agreements, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with approved agencies. At its meeting of June 120, 1986, the City Commission allocated $1,479,902 of 12th Year Community Development Block Grant Funds to approved social service agencies. The Commission also indic- ated that it would consider further allocations if additional funds became available. President Reagan has signed H.R. 4515 which overturns the defer- ral of $500 million of Community Development Block Grant funds previously made by the administration. As a result of this action, the City of Miami will receive an additional $2,030,000. As you are aware, in accordance with federal regulations, 15% or $304,500 may be directed to public services from this addi- tional allocation. If the City Commission decides to allocate the maximum 15% of the additonal C.D. funds to social service projects, the attach- ed resolution would effectuate that intent. The total allocation to social service projects with 12th Year Community Development Block Grant funds would then increase to $1,784,402.
