FLORIDA iNTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM is TO: The Honorable Mayor and DATE: July 17, 1986 FILE: Members of the Commission Cesar Odio FROM: City Manager SUBJECT: RECOMMENDATION FOR RESOLUTION FOR RENEWAL OF LEASE PURCHASE WITH THE BURROUGHS CORPORATION REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: It is recommended that the attached resolution be approved for continuing the lease purchase payment for one hundred B-20 microcomputers and seventy-five printers at an annual cost of $1170 for the B-20's, $1582 for color graphics B-20's, $780 for expansion devices, and $650 for printers acquired for various departments under the existing State of Florida contract. It is recommended that the enclosed resolution be approved for continuing the lease purchase payment for the computer equipment (listed above) acquired under the existing State of Florida contract for various departments. The five year data processing plan prepared by the firm of Booz-Allen and Hamilton in 1983, called for development of a unified policy on the acquisition of the B-20 series computers to be used as part of the office automation effort. To date, every city department has installed the B-20 computers and these machines are used fora number of different applications which include but are not limited to: - Word Processing - Spreadsheet Applications - Message Log - Event Scheduling - Office Supplies Inventory - Management Tracking - Relational Database Management Mailing Label Management Preprinted Forms Graphics Project Tracking - Calendar Business Cards Tracking 8G-i13, Page Two The Honorable Mayor July 17, 1986 and Members of the City Commission The next step in the office automation effort is the installation of Electronic Mail, which will give user departments the ability to download mainframe files for reporting purposes via a communications link between the host B-7900 computer and the individual B-20 micro computers. Several department have acquired additional B-20 micro computers to be paid from their respective department budgets. The current contract between the City of Miami and the Burroughs Corporation has an established price for the B-20's. However, the most recent executed contract between the State of Florida and Burroughs Corporation has enabled the City to obtain the equipment at a bigger discount, based on five year lease purchase agreements. These B-20 micro computers will continue to provide all city departments with efficient and productive office automation equipment for the least cost. Thank you. I 8G13
