The South Florida Employment and Training Consortium has allocated $24,000 of Jab Training Partnership Act (JTPA) funds to the City of Miami for the Overtown Job Training and Development Program operated by the Department of Community Development. The Overtown Job Program is designed to provide intake, assessment, counseling, job development and placement for persons desiring employment, with specific efforts made to satisfy the needs of persons from the Overtown area of the City. During the past year, the Program placed approximately 350 persons in jobs. The Program is currently funded through the Community Development Block Grant at a level of $275,000. The JTPA grant will provide for placement of ten persons with various employers, which will include provision of up to 40% of the parti- cipants' salaries during the training period. The remaining $14,000 are allocated for reimbursement of management costs of the program. These costs would be reimbursed based on $1,400 per placement, with placement being considered as complete after an employee has been retained for at least 30 days on the job. This is a new grant which does not affect the Miami Job Development Program operated by the Department of Personnel, rianagement.
