On July 10, 1986 the City of Miami Commission adopted Motion No. 86-
580 directing the City Manager to allocate an amount not to exceed
$SO,000 for the 1986 Miami Conference on the Caribbean and the
Maritime Transportation Conference sponsored by the Caribbean
Central American Action, Inc., (CCAA).
The CCAA has sponsored the Miami Conference on the Caribbean for the
past nine years and has received the financial support of the City
of Miami since 1983. This annual conference concerns itself with
issues related to trade and commerce development between the
Caribbean Basin countries, and the United States. It brings to
Miami over 2,000 visitors including United States and foreign
dignitaries.

of the City Commission

The first Maritime Transportation Conference will be held at the
Hyatt Regency on November 14 and 15, 1986. The two day forum is
designed to open dialogue and make recommendations on relevant
maritime transportation issues. About 400 persons from shipping
lines, regional and U.S. ports, importers, exporters and government
officials are expected to participate.
These two events carry a heavy national and international media
coverage, the medium to reinforce Miami's image as an international
center for trade and commerce.
It is therefore recommended that the attached resolution be adopted
by the City Commission.
