HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-86-0662RESOLUTION NO A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE 1987 MIAMI INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MIAMI BOOK FAIR INTERNATIONAL, INC., AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC AND ESTABLISHING A TEMPORARY PEDESTRIAN MALL SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES AND ASSURANCES THAT THE CITY WILL BE INSURED AGAINST ANY POTENTIAL LIABILITY; FURTHER ESTABLISHING AN AREA PROHIBITED TO RETAIL PEDDLERS DURING THE PERIOD OF THE EVENT. WHEREAS, the Miami Book Fair International has planned the 1987 Book Fair for November 2-9, 1986; and WHEREAS, Miami Book Fair International has requested the herein street closings for the event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage and establish a temporary pedestrian mall during the 1987 Book Fair to be conducted by the Miami Book Fair International, the following streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic from 10:00 - 4 r s A.M., Thursday, November 6, 1986 to 12:00 noon, Monday, November 10, 1986: N.E. Second Avenue between 3rd Street and 5th Street N.E. Fourth Street between N.E. 2nd Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of Police is to be issued upon the full approval of the Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses, and religious institutions t Upon the favaraWo exercise of the City Manager's Jq1"ment predicated upon *11 the matters set forth herein. Odio I Commission Agenda City Manager ENCLOSURAeptember 11, 1986 It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the closure of certain streets, establishing a temporary pedestrian mall and establishing an area prohibited to retail peddlers during the 1987 Miami Book Fair International to be held in Downtown Miami on November 2-10, 1986. The Miami Book Fair International has requested the closure of certain streets and the establishment of an area prohibited. to retail peddlers in connection with the 1987 Book Fair. In order to.provide safe passage and establish a pedestrian mall during the event, it is recommend that the following streets be closed to traffic from 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 1986, to 12:00 noon Monday, November 10, 1986: Northeast Second Avenue from 3rd Street North to 5th Street Northeast Fourth Street from N.E. 2nd Avenue to Biscayne Bou evar .
