HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-86-1007J-86-1021. 12/Vlr6 RESOLUTION NO. 86-100o A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $150,000 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, CONTINGENT FUND, IN SUPPORT OF SIX (6) COMMUNITY CULTURAL EVENTS; SAID ALLOCATION BEING CONDITIONED UPON SUBSTANTIAL COMPLIANCE WITH ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY NO. APM 1- 84, DATED JANUARY 24, 1984. WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to allocate $200,000 in support of eight (8) community cultural projects; and WHEREAS, the City Commission, by Resolutions No. 86-753 and No. 86-846 granted $35,000 and $15,000, respectively; to the Orange Blossom Classic and the Bethune-Cookman football game. and WHEREAS, on November 13, 1986, the City Commission passed Motion No. 86-917, specifying that these events be considered as two (2) of the eight (8) events to be funded and that the remaining $150,000 be distributed equally among the following six cultural projects: Calle Ocho Open House Festival; Fiesta by the Bay; Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival; Miami City Ballet; Sunstreet Festival; and Three Kings Parade: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. An amount not to exceed $150,000 is hereby allocated from Special Programs and Accounts, Contingent Fund, in support of the following six (6) community cultural events: Events Amount 1. Calle Ocho Open House Festival $25,000 2. Fiesta by the Bay 25,000 3. Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival 25,000 4. Miami City Ballet 25,000 5. Sunstreet Festival 25,000 6. Odio City Manager /f RECOMMENDATION: DATE DEC 51986 FIL: SUa,E:- Legislation Allocating Funds for Eight (8) Community Cultural Activities REFERENCES City Commission Agenda December 11, 1986 ENCLOSURES It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt on 1st reading an ordinance establishing a funding program for the use of $200,000 from Special Programs and Accounts, Contingent Fund, which would fund eight (8) community cultural events. It is also recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution allocating $150,000 of the $200,000 to six (6) community cultural events, since resolutions had previously been passed allocating $50,000 of this amount to two (2) organizations. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation regarding the City Commission's request at its meeting of November 13, 1986, that the amount of $200,000 be distributed among eight (8) community activity projects. The attached ordinance mandates that the $200,000 be distributed as follows: Event Amount Orange Blossom Classic $35,000 Bethune-Cookman Football Game 15,000 Calle Ocho Open House Festival 25,000 Fiesta by the Bay 25,000 Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival 25,000 Miami City Ballet 25,000 Sunstreet Festival 25,000 Three Kings Parade 25,000 7" F 86-100'7 Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission Page two The attached resolution allocates $150,000 to six (6) community cultural events. The City Commission specified at its meeting of November 13, 1986 that $50,000, which had been previously allocated by resolutions to two (2) events ($35,000 to the Orange Blossom Classic and $15,000 to the Bethune-Cookman football game), be considered as part of the $200,000 program.
