Dear Cesar and Jack,
As you know and with many thanks to you, the nightmares of th_-1 f t =t hal
of 1986 are well behind --is. You will bie pl•eas,ed that the Oranac Bcwl P*_1r,,r1n(,
Series is in great shape and looking b tter than N have secc;r_-c3
sponsorship, the numbers are up Qer the last f `.v ears and most IRIt `rtI:t
there is increased interest from overseas. To Mate, 13 tours from 11
countries have ccnfirrrxed that they will be coming. the have 85 Swedes, 46
Frenchmen, big groups from Costa Rica, Germany, Britain and Brazil and rn:
others. The American Savings Orange Bowl Marathon (loth running) will tak.-
place on January loth and the Orange Bowl 10,000 %letees will bee on Januar: 31,
1987. I enclose copies of our brochure with full information. By the way, the
official Hotels are the Hyatt and Biscayne Bay Marriot, both in the 2ity.v.f
Miami. We are confident that we will account for between 5000 and =000 hotel
room nights and with a projected 2000 visitors we should provide -a
healthy financial impact.
Don't worr-v, this is not a plea for mcney, although, if I can r:vt
deal together the City may '.wish to l:articipate. The tab will only a ':
S5,000 for between 4 and 6 sponsors and we .,'ill ahl.e to put th-
10,000 Meters, to lie run as last year on the Grand Prix Track, on ESP:.*
PBS. The purpose of this letter is just to tell you of our plans not cr.i,.
lecause we could not produce el Cher ,z? ent without the City s cons•:nt a _1
involvement but also because I feel we share a goal (and a sp_cial ,cnJ
comradeship after the Miami Winter Games) to make this an even ar_at_r i
The Marathon will start and finish at Crandon Park and will run cv,__r
Rickenbacker down through the Grove and return to the Key with the last 8
miles on Crandon Blvd, in the Cape Florida State Park with a finish on the
Superstars Track in Crandon Park. Coleman Travelstead has mat the Police
-- (Harvey Bach) and I believe everything is worked out and as the course is much
easier to police than the old one, I think we will be able to keep our costs
down to about $2,500.
The 10K has now become one of the most important in the world and has
just been placed on the IAAF circuit of events. The date is January 31 %.:_th .ar:
8:30 AM start on the Grand Prix Track. The coarse will consist of i I_ip cf.-
track, a mile out and back on the Venetian Causeway and a final 2 mil-_s on th
track. This is where we need the City's help most of all. We plan to have th•,
