SUARE , MAYO 87-32 1 CITY OF MIAMI. FLORIDA 34 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM The Honorable Mayor and Members DATE: DEC 3 11988 FILE. of the City Commission i r FROM: Cesar H. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: Resolution Authorizing SUBJECT. Award of Bid #96-87-002 Purchase and Install Two (2) Automatic Car REFERENCES Wash Systems ENCLOSURES It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution awarding a contract for the purchase and installation of two (2) automatic car wash systems, removal of obsolete equipment and purchase and installation of two (2) recycling tanks to Car Wash Equipment and Supplies RYKO of South Florida, Inc., the only complete responsive bidder in accord with Bid No. 86-87-002. Total cost of this material will be $111,736.00. BACKGROUND: The General Services Administration Department has analyzed bids received pursuant to bid #86-87-002, to provide two (2) car wash systems which are needed at the Main Motor Pool and the Police Motor Pool Annex, and has recommended award be made to Car Wash Equipment and Supplies RYKO of South Florida, Inc., as the lowest acceptable responsible and responsive bidder, in the amount of $111,736.00. Funds for this purpose are available within the 1986-87 budget of the Fleet Management Division, General Services Administration Department. The new systems will replace equipment put in service in 1968 at the Main Motor Pool and 1975 at the Motor Pool Annex at Police Department, each of which systems is well beyond the average six - year life span of similar equipment. When in service, approximately 125 to 150 vehicles are washed by each existing machine daily. Based on use of the current machines which are obsolete, undependable and often out of service for repairs, over an anticipated minimum of a six year life span, the cost per car wash will be less than $.25 each. When the new, more dependable machines are installed, it is expected that use of the car wash systems shall increase. The new systems are designed with the latest environmental features to recycle water and make maximum use of detergents.
