MILLER DAWKINS f,l` TY OF MIAMI January 9, 1987 Dear Commissioner Dawkins: As a follow-up to our earlier conversation, this is a request for support from the City of Miami for the 60th Anniversary of Booker T. Washington High School. As you are aware Booker T. is the oldest Black high school in Miami. Yet, it has served as more than an educational center named for a historic figure, it has also been a landmark, the foundation of social history in the community. Many of our current community leaders are Washingtonians. And, since Booker T. Washington will be the educational facility in redeveloped Overtown, many more leaders will be produced. The Alumni Association has planned a special weekend of acti- vities to commemorate this event: Friday, Feb. 20, 1987-Reception, Culmer Center Saturday, Feb.21,1987-Dinner-Dance, Omni Hotel. Sunday, Feb. 22, 1987-Parade of Classes Program, B.T.W. Auditorium Reception,'B.T.W. Patio A total budget of $20,000 has been projected for the activities. We are asking the City for $5,000 plus donation of services (permits, barricades, police services, etc.). Donations are being requested from the:iCbuhty, and the private sector. In addition,. the Alumni Association will raaise funds through the sale of souvenirs. Thank you for your support.
