City Manager Due PLEASE: n ❑ Follow-up. ❑ See me on this issue. ❑ Prepare reply for my signature. ❑ Reply. 0 Other I am a Vice President of Sun Bank/Miami,N.A. and an amateur tri- athlete. I participated in the USTS Bud Light Triathlon in Fort Lauderdale in 185 and '86. After the 86 event, I contacted the promoter CAT Sports Inc. to see what interest they had in Miami. They were interested; so was the Chamber of Commerce. I can't think of a more beautiful urban setting for our sport than downtown Miami. My idea is to use Bicentennial Park as a transition and highlight the city's Port, Skyline, Bayside, and Brickell Avenue as we swim, bike, and run. We are seeking city support for the first year of the event to insure a successful start to the 1987 USTS Series. Your support will help allow for signifigant prizes and an outstanding race conditions. We are assisting in locating corporate sponsorship, selection of the course, choosing a race director, and helping obtain necessary permits. ESPN will cover this kick-off Triathlon. Viewing will be tape delayed with at least three showings anticipated. If you saw the coverage of the USTS Bud Light Baltimore or Hilton Head events last year, you know the areas are well covered and excellent credit is given to the municipalities and local sponsors. The Iron Man and Nice Triathlons featured on ABC last weekend carried spots soliciting participation in the Bud Light Series by calling a national toll free number. As the sport of Triathlon grows, Miami should be a logical location. We have the transportation, accomodations, and one of the worlds most beautiful urban settings. I hope you will agree to assist our eff its for one year to introduce our city to the Trathlon. Sin iely,• Kent Little Vice President and Branch Manager 87-1'71
