HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-87-0145J-87-148 1/29/87 RESOLUTION NO. 87�-f45 A RESOLUTION RESCINDING IN ITS ENTIRETY RESOLUTION NO. 84-1351 ADOPTED DECEMBER 13, 1984, WHICH HAD ALLOCATED $2,600 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS CONTINGENT FUND TO COVER THE COST OF FOUR (4) SURPLUS CITY VEHICLES TO BE PURCHASED AND USED BY THE STAFF OF THE FUNDACION NACIONAL CUBANO- AMERICANO FUNDO DE AYUDA DEL EXODO CUBANO TO ASSIST IN PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THE GROUP OF EXILES RECENTLY EXILED FROM MARIEL, CUBA AND PRESENTLY LOCATED IN PERU. WHEREAS, the City Commission did approve Resolution 84-1351 on December 13, 1984 allocating $2,600 from Special Programs and Accounts, Contingent Fund, to cover the cost of four (4) surplus city vehicles to be purchased and used by the staff of the Fundacion Nacional Cubano-Americano Fundo De Ayuda Del Exodo Cubano to assist in providing support for the group of exiles recently exiled from Mariel, Cuba and presently located in Peru; and WHEREAS, for two (2) years, the City of Miami has stood ready, willing and able to provide these automobiles to the Cuban -American National Foundation; and WHEREAS, the Cuban -American National Foundation has not been able to accept delivery of these vehicles, due to complications arising from the failure of the Peruvian government to issue permits to import the vehicles; and WHEREAS, due to climatic conditions and the length of time the vehicles have been sitting idle, the vehicles have deteriorated and depreciated significantly; and WHEREAS, the Cuban -American National Foundation was recently contacted and is not able to arrange delivery of the vehicles in the foreseeable future; CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF FEB 12 1981 —1— EsowM W *a. 87"'145. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Resolution No. 84-1351 which had allocated $2,600 from special programs and accounts contingent fund to cover the cost of four (4) surplus city vehicles to be purchased and used by the staff of the Fundacion Nacional Cubano-Americano Fundo De Ayuda Del Exodo Cubano to assist in providing support for the group of exiles recently exiled from Mariel, Cuba and presently located in Peru, is hereby rescinded in its entirety. FILE: Authorizing Resolution It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution which rescinds Resolution 84-1351, which had allocated $2,600 from special programs and accounts contingent fund to cover the. cost of four (4) surplus city vehicles to be purchased and used by the staff of the Fundacion Nacional Cubano- Americano Fundo De Ayuda Del Exodo Cubano to assist in providing support for the group of exiles from Mariel, Cuba and presently located in Peru. BACKGROUND: The General Services Administration Department has stood ready, willing and able to provide the automobiles requested to the Cuban -American National Foundation for two (2) years. However, complications arose which prevented the Cuban -American National Foundation from exporting the vehicles to Peru. Meanwhile, the automobiles have significantly depreciated in appearance and value while awaiting delivery. As it appears, that the issue involving the import of these vehicles to Peru will not soon be resolved, it is appropriate to take action .rescinding the previous action of the City Commission.
