HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-87-0132t Q, J-87-132 1/22/87 RESOLUTION NO. 8 r7-1324 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING DESIGNER'S SHOWCASE '87 TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT ASSOCIATION ON MARCH 14, 1987 AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO THE, ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES AND THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE CITY WILL BE INSURED AGAINST ANY POTENTIAL LIABILITY; CONDITIONED UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR THE NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT. WHEREAS, The Miami Design District Association will conduct the Designer's Showcase '87 on March 14, 1987; and WHEREAS, certain streets shall be closed to through vehicular traffic during specified dates and hours to insure the safety of the participants and pedestrians attending this event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage during the Designer's Showcase '87 to be conducted by the Miami Design District Association, the following streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic from 6:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 14, 1987: North Miami Avenue from 38 Street to 41 Street North Miami Court from 38 Street to 39 Street N.E. 1 Avenue from 36 Street to 41 Street N.E. 1 Court from 36 Street to 39 Street N.E. 2 Avenue from 36 Street to 42 Street N.E. 38 Street from North Miami Avenue to N.E. 2 Avenue N.E. 39 Street from North Miami Avenue to Federal Highway N.E. 40 Street from North Miami to N.E. 2 Avenue Included in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of Police is to be issued upon the full approval of th of CITY_ COMMISSION;. - MEETING .OP' FEB 12 F 19 T Police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's judgement predicated upon all factors set forth herein. Section 3. Such closing of streets is subject to the Miami Design District Association obtaining insurance as mandated by the City of Miami, Finance Department, Risk. Management Division. Section 4. Commission Agenda Item February 12, 1987 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution. authorizing certain street closures for the Designer's Showcase '87. The street closures for Showcase '87 are subject to the issuance of permits by the departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services and conditioned upon the organizers paying for the necessary costs. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation for certain street closures in connection with the Designer's Showcase '87 to be conducted by the Miami Design District Association on Saturday, March 14, 1987. The organizers have indicated that this event is a fund-raiser for the benefit of the Second Generation Deed Club, whose function is the sustenance of the University of Miami Children's Cancer Clinic.
