HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Item Cover PageG�w op ti AGENDA ITEM COVER PAGE File ID: #13679 Resolution Sponsored by: Commissioner Sabina Covo A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ("COUNTY") DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC WORKS TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO CONVERT SOUTHEAST 9 STREET FROM BRICKELL PLAZA TO SOUTH MIAMI AVENUE TO BE A ONE-WAY STREET HEADING WEST; REQUESTING THAT THE COUNTY RENDER A FINAL DECISION AS TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S REQUEST, PURSUANT TO ITS AUTHORITY TO REGULATE TRAFFIC COUNTYWIDE, INCLUDING WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND INDIVIDUALS STATED HEREIN. of .�f City of Miami City Hall * INC IIf 6NATF0 * 3500 Pan American Drive .r;<. 11 eA Legislation Miami, FL 33133 Resolution www.miamigov.com Enactment Number: R-23-0153 File Number: 13679 Final Action Date:3/23/2023 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ("COUNTY") DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC WORKS TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO CONVERT SOUTHEAST 9 STREET FROM BRICKELL PLAZA TO SOUTH MIAMI AVENUE TO BE A ONE-WAY STREET HEADING WEST; REQUESTING THAT THE COUNTY RENDER A FINAL DECISION AS TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S REQUEST, PURSUANT TO ITS AUTHORITY TO REGULATE TRAFFIC COUNTYWIDE, INCLUDING WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND INDIVIDUALS STATED 1 1:4101 WHEREAS, Brickell is a busy urban area with high vehicular and pedestrian traffic; and WHEREAS, Southeast 9 Street from Brickell Plaza to South Miami Avenue is a two-way street with many locals, visitors, pedestrians, and families that walk through the area to visit the various stores, business, and restaurants in the area; and WHEREAS, the Rok Family Shul Chabad Downtown Jewish Center is a gathering place that generates a significant amount of pedestrian traffic; and WHEREAS, Southeast 9 Street from Southwest 1 Avenue to South Miami Avenue is a one-way street heading west; and WHEREAS, due to the number of tourists that visit the area, the change from a two-way street to a one-way street once Southeast 9 Street crosses South Miami Avenue, and the large amounts of pedestrian traffic in the area, the approximately three hundred thirty-eight (338) feet of Southeast 9 Street from Brickell Plaza to South Miami Avenue creates significant life -safety risks; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to request that the Miami -Dade County ("County") Department of Transportation and Public Works ("DTPW') convert the portion of Southeast 9 Street from Brickell Plaza to South Miami Avenue to be a one-way street heading west; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-96.1 of the Code of Miami -Dade County, Florida, the County has authority over traffic engineering services and traffic control devices within the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, the City is requesting County approval to convert Southeast 9 Street from Brickell Plaza to South Miami Avenue to be a one-way street heading west; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission urges the County take any and all actions necessary to convert Southeast 9 Street from Brickell Plaza to South Miami Avenue to be a one-way street heading west, and to render a final decision as to this request pursuant to the County's authority over traffic in the City. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to County Mayor Daniella Levine -Cava, DTPW Director Eulois Cleckley, and the members of the Board of County Commissioners. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
