HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-87-03664/9/87 J-87-371 RESOLUTION NO. 87 366 A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $50,000 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, CONTINGENT FUND TO BRING A MAJOR INTERNATIONAL SOCCER MATCH BETWEEN THE PROFESSIONAL TEAMS OF BRAZIL AND COLUMBIA TO THE MIAMI ORANGE BOWL STADIUM ON MAY 16, 1987, WITH $17,300 REPRESENTING RENTAL PAYMENTS FOR USE OF SAID STADIUM ON MARCH 12 AND 14, 1987 BY MIAMI MONDIAL, INC., THE SPONSORING ORGANIZATION, AND $16,500 REPRESENTING NET REVENUE FROM PARKING AND CONCESSION OPERATIONS FOR ORANGE BOWL SOCCER EVENTS ON MARCH 12 AND 141 1987, WITH AN ADDITIONAL MINIMUM AMOUNT OF $8,000 REPRESENTING THE RENTAL PAYMENT FOR THE USE OF SAID STADIUM ON MAY 16, 1987 BY MIAMI MONDIAL, AND AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $8,200 REPRESENTING ANTICIPATED NET REVENUE TO BE EARNED FROM PARKING AND CONCESSION OPERATIONS ON MAY 16, 1987. WHEREAS, Miami Mundial, Inc. has worked diligently to bring major international soccer events to the City of Miami Orange Bowl Stadium; and WHEREAS, the City Commission, by adoption of Motion No. 87- 255 on March 13, 1987, directed the City Manager to negotiate up to $50,000 to promote a world -class soccer game in the Orange Bowl Stadium on May 16, 1987 using anticipated profits from soccer games played on March 12 and 14, 1987; and WHEREAS, net profits from the March games only amounted to $16,500 from parking and concession operations; and WHEREAS, the amount of $17,300 is forthcoming in the form of rental payments for said March soccer games, with there being an additional minimum amount of $8,000 to be forthcoming from the rental charges for the May 16, 1987 game, and there being a minimum amount of $8,200 anticipated to be received from parking and concession operations on May 16, 1987; and WHEREAS, an amount not to exceed $50,000 is needed by Miami Mundial and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities to meet committments for this event; and WHEREAS, said organization will use a portion of said funds to complete travel arrangements for the professional teams of Brazil and Columbia to Miami; and C 7co 81XSEM; (two a t iti`Fw:�! :Rf WHEREAS, said funds will also be used to complete arrangements for satellite television hook-ups so as to provide maximum media exposure nationally and internationally; and WHEREAS, said funds as set forth above are currentiv available from Special Programs and Accounts, Contingent Fund. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. An amount not to exceed $50,000 is hereby allocated from Special Programs and Accounts, Contingent Fund to bring a major international soccer match between the professional teams of Brazil and Columbia to the Miami Orange Bowl Stadium on May 16, 1987, with $17,300 representing rental payments for use of said stadium on March 12 and 14, 1987 by Miami Mundial, Inc., the sponsoring organization, and $16,500 representing net revenue from parking and concession operations at said stadium March 12 and 14, 1987, with an additional minimum amount of $8,000 representing the rental payment for the use of the Orange Bowl Stadium on May 16, 1987 by Miami Mundial, and an amount not to exceed $8,200 representing anticipated net revenue to be earned from parking and concession operations on May 16, 1987.
