HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-87-0321i J-87-341 3/26/87 RESOLUTION NO. 87- 3211 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING A PARADE TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI COMMITTEE ON BEAUTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENT ON MAY 1, 1987 AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Committee on Beautification and Environment will conduct a parade on Friday, May 1, 1987; and WHEREAS, certain streets shall be closed to through vehicular traffic during specified dates and hours to insure the safety of the participants and pedestrians attending this event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage during the parade to be conducted by the City of Miami Committee on Beautification and Environment the following streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. i t on Friday, May 1, 1987: Flagler Street between Biscayne Boulevard and West 1st Ave. Included in the herein closure are all streets, f avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of Police is to be issued upon the full approval of the Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's judgement predicated upon all factors set forth herein. Odlo t REFERENCES: City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECQ4M ENDATION: APR Z 1987 FILE: Resolution Closing Streets for Committee on Beauti- ficat:.on Parade Commission Agenda Item April 9, 1987 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the closure of certain streets for a parade to be conducted by the Committee on Beautification and Environment on Friday, May 1, 1987. The street closures are subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation for the closure of Flagler Street between Biscayne Boulevard and West 1st Avenue for the 1987 Clean-up, Fix -up, Paint -up parade to be conducted by the City of M iami Committee on Beautification and Environment on Friday, May 1, 1987. The parade will start at 11:00 A.M. at the intersection of Flagler Street and Biscayne Boulevard and proceed West on Flagler Street to the Courthouse, where it will end approximately at noon. The parade is being conducted for the purpose of focusing attention on the efforts to keep Miami clean, and will feature City of Miami officials, sanitation trucks, police vehicles and high school marching bands.
