RESOLUTION NO. 87-493
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO ENTER INTO NEGOTIATIONS WITH MIKALON,
INC., SETTING FORTH THE TERMS AND
CONDITIONS FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A REVOCABLE
PERMIT FOR THE USE OF A PORTION OF BAY
BOTTOM LANDS ADJACENT TO THE EAST SIDE OF
THE PIER PARK LEASED AREA FOR THE
TEMPORARY MOORING OF THE GALLEON, A
REPLICA 16TH CENTURY BRITISH GALLEON,
SUBJECT TO A PROPOSED AGREEMENT ACCEPTABLE
TO THE CITY, BETWEEN BAYSIDE CENTER
LIMITED PARTNERSHIP AND MI KALON, INC. FOR
LANDSIDE FACILITIES AT THE BAYSIDE
SPECIALTY CENTER.
WHEREAS, Mikalon, Inc. is desirous of constructing a 160'
replica 16th Century British Galleon, hereinafter referred to as
The Galleon, to be moored adjacent to the east side of the
Bayside Center Limited Partnership's Pier Park leased area; and
WHEREAS, construction plans for The Galleon provide for the
installation of the prefabricated rigging to be conducted with a
maximum of public visibility, accessibility, and participation;
and
WHEREAS, the City and Bayside Center Limited Partnership
are desirous of promoting tourism at the Bayside Specialty Center
by having The Galleon moored at a portion of the bay bottom lands
adjacent to the Pier Park leased area, subject to a proposed
agreement acceptable to the City, between Bayside Center Limited
Partnership and Mikalon, Inc. for 1 andsi de facilities at the
Bayside Specialty Center; and
WHEREAS, Mikalon, Inc. is requesting the issuance of a
Revocable Permit for use of a portion of the bay bottom lands
adjacent to Bayside Center Limited Partnership's leased area for
the temporary mooring of the Galleon;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter
into negotiations with Mikalon, Inc., setting forth the terms and
conditions for the issuance of a Revocable Permit for the use of
a portion of the bay bottom lands adjacent to the

the Pier Park leased area for the temporary mooring of the
Galleon, a replica 16th Century British Galleon, subject to a
proposed agreement acceptable to the City, between Bayside Center
Limited Partnership and Mikalon, Inc. for landside facilities at
the Bayside Specialty Center.

RECOMMENDATIONS
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission approve
the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter
into negotiations with Mikalon, Inc. setting forth the terms and
conditions for the issuance of a Revocable Permit for the use of
a portion of bay bottom lands adjacent to the east side of the
Bayside Center Limited Partnership's Pier Park leased area for
the temporary mooring of The Galleon, a replica 16th Century
British Galleon, subject to a proposed agreement acceptable to
the City, between Bayside Center Limited Partnership and Mikalon,
Inc. for landside facilities at the Bayside Specialty Center.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Development respectfully recommends that the
Commission authorize negotiations with Mikalon, Inc. to enter
into a Revocable Permit for the temporary mooring of a 160'
Replica 16th Century British Galleon at Bayside adjacent to the
east side of the Pier park leased area.
Mikalon, Inc. is desirous of constructing and mooring The Galleon
at a portion of bay bottom lands at Bayside near The Bounty.
Construction plans for The Galleon provide for the installation
of the prefabricated rigging to be conducted with a maximum of
public visibility and participation. Mikalon, Inc. is requesting
the issuance of a Revocable Permit for the use of a portion of
bay bottom lands adjacent to the east side of Pier Park leased by
Bayside Center Limited Partnership for mooring of The Galleon.
