Odi o FROM City Manager SUBJECT Commercial Equipment Acquisition REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES. The City of Miami, per Chapter 22 of the Municipal Codes, Subsection 22-13, Page 20, has the direct authority to control the collection` of all refuse in the City of Miami. I respectfully request that we exercise that right, specifically as it relates to city owned property and/or facilities in the entire City of Miami. The City Administration further recommends, that the Department of General Services Administration 'be allowed to purchase the following equipment to pursue the implementation of the aforementioned endeavor by the Department of Solid Waste: No. of Units Cost Per Unit 2) tractor trailers $74,000 each $TT8 ;�O�QO total 2) 36 yd roll -off $17,000 each S34;QtTB' total 2) compactors $10,000 each $Q total Maintenance/Operating Cost $4,000 each $�',�OtT total $210,000 total PERSONNEL: Two (2) truck drivers are needed for the project at present. However, as service increases more employees may be required. This shall be done through the use of individuals already employed within the Department, at a cost of $28,000 per employee. $56� total. —"— I Moila� /%t'e.✓ 8 7-01753 T,7-3� '�ri Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission Page 2 POTENTIAL REVENUE: The number of city facilities owned and/or leased relative to city waste collection that are not being rendered services at the present by the Department of Solid Waste; are approximately 110 units. The initial undertaking for same is the Bayside SpeciaTfy re'nier, Hyatt Hotel /Knight Center, Miami Sports Arena, and subsequently all other such entities as stated. METHOD OF COLLECTION: All collection shall be made on an as needed basis per the Department's existing collection system. "— RATIONALE: The commercial collections by the Department of Solid Waste of all city owned properties and facilities shall directly offset the escalating cost of solid waste collection and disposal. 8'7-553
