TRAURIG Pallidet'tt April 30, 1987 Mr. Cesar Odio City Manager City of Miami 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Mr. Manager: The Greater Miami Opera Association hereby requests a grant of $50,000 from the City of Miami in support of its 1986-87 fiscal year which ends on May 31, 1987. To this end may we request inclusion on the agenda of the City Cammfssion meeting scheduled for May 14, 1987 and your favorable recommendation in support of our request. As you undoubtedly know by now: - All of the International & National Series performances of the Opera are rxyw presented in Miami and no longer divided between Miami and Miami Beach. - The Cammissioners have for many years considered the Opera Miami's forem)st cultural institution and made an annual grant to the Opera's activities. - Both the Dade County Council of Arts and Sciences and the Dade County School Board support the Opera with approximately $50,000 per year. - As a result of its move to Miami, the Opera has lost the annual Miami Beach grant of $35,000. - The Opera enploys a total of 300 South Floridians most of whom live in Miami. - With an annual budget of over $4 million and assets of over $1.5 million, the Opera has its funds managed and invested through a Miami financial. institution. We will be grateful for your support of our request. Will you have us notified that we have been placed on the agenda for the May 14 Commission meeting? With thanks and best wishes, I am Sincerely yours, Robert H. Traurig le -/ MTtJ►J e 1200 Cool Way • Miami, Roido 33145 • (305) 854-1643 William J.
