Project No.404000 Resolution for Increase in REFERENCESContract A Final Acceptance ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution accepting the completed work performed by MET Construction, Inc. at a total cost of $427,533.00 for ORANGE BOWL JOIST REPLACEMENT - 1986 C.T.P. Project No. 404000; authorizing an increase in the contract in the amount of $9,787.00 and authorizing a final payment of $20,230.65. BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works has determined that it is now in order for the Commission to accept the completed work and authorize final payment, after all conditions are met for the Orange Bowl Joist Replacement - 1986 C.I.P. Project No. 404000. MET Construction, Inc. has completed the project, which originally consisted of the replacement of 150 deteriorated joists and 7,500 s.f. of deck slabs in the Orange Bowl Stadium. Two previous increases in contract have been approved for the project. Resolution No. 86-723 (September 11, 1986) authorized an increase of $30,000 to pay for additional deteriorated deck slabs and structural members that were uncovered during construction and required correction before the first Dolphin Exhibition Game on August 16. The $30,000 increase was insufficient, and it actually cost $34,587 to take care of the additional work. Resolution No. 87-192 (February 12, i987) authorized an increase of $15,496 to widen the Orange Bowl Playing Field area in order to facilitate proposed soccer events. a2y—! 8'` _611 4 4 The contractor had submitted a claim for $10,392.55 in overtime pay to accelerate the project and have it essentially completed, for the August 16 game, 16 days earlier than the contract specified. The acceleration costs were negotiated down to $5200 so that the increase in contract would be less than $10,000 and would facilitate the contractor's final payment. The proposed $9,787 increase in contract is therefore, the sum of the $4587 overrun of the original $30,000 increase in contract and the $5200 negotiated acceleration cost. The total payments to the contractor will be greater than the original contract amount by S55,283 because of the increases noted above. This was a unit price contract in the amount of $372,250 but because of the increases the final construction cost for the project is $427,533.
