Florida 33133 Dear Mayor Suarez: Aspira of Florida. which has served over 2.000 Hispanic and disadvantaged minority youth in the City of Miami during its six (6) years, is currently facing an emergency financial crisis. This critical situation has been precipitated by the loss of $75,000 in funding from State for the 1987-1988 fiscal year. This setback seriously threatens the continuance of Aspire's School Drop Out Prevention/Leadership Development Program at seven (7) of the City's junior and senior high schools (i.e. Booker T. Washington, Citrus Grove Middle, Shenandoah, Robert E. Lee, Edison Middle, Edison Senior, Miami Jackson). Because of your past support and leadership in serving the needs of the Wynwood community. Aspira's neighborhood Iocation. as well as representing the interest of all of Miami's residents, we would appreciate the opportunity to come before you and the City Commissioners for an emergency $25,000 grant request. We understand that the process for this request would normally take place in September during the butget hearings. However, due to our ominous situation, we ask that you please place us on the calendar agenda for the Jul-y 23rd, 1987 City Commission meeting. Your commitment to the future of our City's youth is an invaluable example to all. We trust in your support of our "Aspirantes".
