A RESOLUTION APPOINTING THREE (3) MEMBERS OF THE PRIVATE INDUSTRY COUNCIL (PIC) OF _ SOUTH FLORIDA FOR TERMS TO EXPIRE JUNE 30, 1988, AND THREE (3) MEMBERS OF THE PIC OF SOUTH FLORIDA, FOR TERMS TO EXPIRE JUNE 30, 1989. WHEREAS, the Private Industry Council (PIC) of South Florida is a duly constituted body under the provisions of the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA); and WHEREAS, the Job Training Partnership Act stipulates that local elected officials shall appoint the members of Private Industry Councils; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami. Commission is presently called upon to make appointments to six (6) vacant seats in the PIC of South Florida; and WHEREAS, three (3) of the aformentioned seats are reserved for duly nominated representatives of the private sector; one (1) seat for a representative of education and two (2) seats for representatives of community based organizations; and WHEREAS, at the May 14, 1987 City Commission meeting, the City Commission expressed its intent to appoint Richard Pettigrew and Lori Weldon to two (2) of the private sector seats which expire June 30, 1988; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: DATE J U L 14 1987 FILE Resolution Appointing SUBJECT Six (6) Individuals to the Private Industry Council of South Florida REFERENCES ENCLOSURES It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution appointing six (6) members of the Private Industry Council of South Florida. BACKGROUND: The Private Industry Council (PIC) of South Florida was established in 1983 in compliance with the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) of 1982. The law provides for a partnership between the PIC and local elected officials in each service delivery area to oversee the implementation of JTPA programs. The Job Training Partnership Act stipulates that Local Elected Officials shall appoint the members of the Private Industry Council, which is composed of representatives of the following membership areas: Economic Development, Community Based Organizations, Education, Labor, Job Service, Vocational Rehabilitation, and the Private Sector. It is required that all appoiontaments be made from the PIC's list of nominees. The PIC of South Florida is currently comprised of 35 members, which serve staggered two (2) year terms. Three (3) of these are for terms which would be in effect through June 1988; and three (3) are for terms which would expire June 1989. The remaining two (2) City of Miami appointments were made by the City Commission during the meeting of May 14, 1987. The Commission adopted Resolution 87-457, appointing William Alexander and Jorge deTuya to private sector seats for terms to expire June 30, 1988. Also, during the May 14th meeting, the City Commission recommended Richard Pettigrew and Lori Weldon be included on the PIC's list of nominees, afterwhich they would be appointed to two of the private sector seats for terms to expire June 1988. Following is a summary of the seats for which the City Commission has been requested to make appointments.
