The Department of Parks, Recreation and public Facilities has

plan for the renovation of the City`s child day care facilities
by the October 8, 1987 City Convaission meeting% It has been
estimated that a total of $111, 800 will be needed to c:ompluty the
necessary renovations. of this amount, $11,8uo is available in a
related capital ,project for Lemon City park, and 450,3u0 is

immediately at the Lemon City Child Day care Center. The
attached resolution will allocate the remaining funds necessary

IAMI officials have found
$100.000 to fix the city's run•
doWn day-care centers;, a park
official said Wednesday.
The money would be spent on
repairing the most Stating deft•
ciencies at the four centers, said
Susan McKay, park ptannin coon
dinator for the Miami Paris and
Recreation Department.
Plans include putting in new
toilets, sinks and kitchen equip-
ment at three of the centers.
Children's playrooms would be
paneled and carpeted. Window air
conditioners would be ` fixed or
replaced. : Outside. a play area
would be paved so youngsters can
ride tricycles. McKay said.
The centers are Shenandoph Day
Care Center. 1800 SW 21st Ave.:
Moore Day CareCenter. 765 NW

City Day Care Center. 27 NE 58th

The run-down condition of the
facilities came to the attention of
the City Commission in late July
when It considered raising day-
care rates for the low-income
families who use the centers.
.
Before the meeting.' Commis-
sioner Rosario Kennedy took a
• surprise tour of two day-care
centers and found them in terrible
shape. In the playrooms. dingy
walls needed painting and ' the
Carpeting was .coming up. Faucets
leaked In the bathrooms, and some
of the toilets were broken.
'This is yearn of neglect."
Kennedy said.
The commission ended up reject•
tnil a rate increase for families
Corning less than S25,000 a year
and directing City Manager G•ssr
Odlo to find money for "repairs. `
The commission will review the
proposed
spending plan Sept. 8.
