FANAMERICAN HALL CONCERT SERIES THAT WILL i TRAVEL TO MIAMI AND PERFORM IN THE CITY OF MIAMI-ORGANIZATION OP AMERICAN STATES 1NTERNATIDNAD ARTISTS SERIES, FURTHER ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT OF $10►800 PROM THE CITY' S CASH MATCH FUND► SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND 3 ACCOUNTS, AS THE CITY'S PORTION AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER 114'TO THE NECESSARY AGREEMENTS IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY. 9 ?` i WHEREAS, the Organization of American States has offered a grant to the City of Miami whereby it bestows the City exclusive performing rights of its International Artists Series; and WHEREAS, OAS further bestows an amount not to exceed $10,800 to cover a portion of the expenses for this series; and WHEREAS, an equal amount of $10,800 is available in the City's Cash Match Fund, Special Programs and Accounts as the City ` portions NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to accept a grant- i - from the Organization of American States bestowing the City of Miami exclusive performing rights of its International Artists Series further granting an amount not to exceed $10,800 from them to cover directly the payment of costs for travel,- per diem and } partial performing fees of the artists from, said 1987-88 OAS Washington, D.C., panamericaD Hall International Concert Series. Odd this amount as well as an City Manager equal amount of $101800 from :the City' s Cash Match pund RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution and emergencyordinance allocating and appropriating $21#600 to the Department of Community Development as a result of a $10, 800 grant from the OAS and a corresponding City Cash Match:for an equal amount of $10#800 in connection with the Miami -OAS International Artists Series. BACKGROUND The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation to accept a grant from the Organization of American States bestowing an amount not to exceed $10800 for , them to directly pay' the travel#'. per diem and partial' fee costs of the artists from their OAS International Artists Series that will perform in the Miami/OAS' International Artists Series during the 1987-88 season and the further y have granted' the exclusive performing rights of these artists to the City of Miami. Miami will be the only United States City, other than Washington, D.C. to host these prestigious events. The City*a matching portionwillnot exceed an equal amount of x ' $10,800. -Seven' concerts are projected to be held with the cosponsorship of the University of Miami 'School of.Music, Florida International University' and the New World Campus` Lunchtime .t Lively Arts'. These sponsors will provide for the costs of concert halls. (organization of American States) Music Secretariat a grant in aid bestowing exclusive performing rights of its international artists series held ,in Washington, D.C. to be presented here in Miami, Florida; as well as financial assistance in cosponsoring a Miami-O.A.S. International concert series. 'This project to, follow the successful 1981. 182 and '83 series presented-in,Miami with tremendous success which culminated in a Washington, D.C. Panamerican'Hall Concert showcasing Miami 'talent in the spring of 1983.
