The General Services Administration Department has reviewed Miami
Dade Community College's letter expressing interest in acquiring
City -owned property in the vicinity of NW 20 Street and 10 Avenue
for possible expansion of their Medical Center Campus. They are
seeking a site immediately west of the Medical Campus.
The proposed facility would involve approximately 4.59 acres to
construct a 70,000 square foot, three-story building, which would
require a 160,000 square foot surface parking lot for
approximately 400 cars. Proximity to the Metrorail Station is an
important consideration for thin proposed facility. The college
is seeking state funding for the project, and is in the process
of receiving $1,000,000 for site acquisition from the State of
Florida.
The City owns approximately 18 acres in the aforementioned
vicinity, which houses General Services Administration's Motor
Pool, Property Maintenance, Communications, Parks and Public
Works Operation centers, and Dade County Solid Waste. This
valuable land is currently under-utilized, although it is used
for the City's warehousing, communications, parking, maintenance,
and fueling and repair operations.
The City Administration, via this memdorandum, is seeking the City
Commission's guidance as to the City's role in continuing to
discuss the details of their proposed acquisition.
