Re: St. Luke's Child Care Center Presentation
St. Luke's Child Care Center respectfully requests your placement of our concerns
on the City Commission meeting to take place on October 8, 1987.
St. Luke's is the only program in Florida serving the children of substance -abusing
parents. At the program these children receive three meals a day insuring their
nutritional well-being at a time when their parents may be functioning so inadequa-
tely as to neglect nourish them properly.
In addition to these children we serve children'of neighborhood needy families.
Children receive proper nourishment and are assisted in the acquisition of verbal
and social skills necessary to their development.
For children of both groups of parents, this program is important not only as a
good start in life for the children, but also because of the opportunities such
child care provides parents to take care of the personal problems which could
disrupt and destroy family life. Parents are also enebled to secure training or
education for jobs which will enable them to care for their children in ways that
help them become productive citizens.
We are currently in need of some additional funding because the costs of service
delivery for children in this program have increased at a rate greater than the
amount allocated by our current funding sources.
Sincerely,
Francisca O'Farrill, M.S.
