O d i c REFERENCES: City Manager 0 ENCLOSURES, RECOMMEADATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the - attached emergency ordinan,ce,increasi.ne the appropriation for the project entitled "Police Department - Computer Enhancement", and appropriating funds in the amount of $216,000 composed of $116,000 from the 1970 Police General: Obligation Bonds and — $100,000 from the Department of Justice, through the Florida Department of Community Affairs, for the purpose ofrewriting the Computer Assisted Report Entry System SCARE). BACKGROUND: The City' of Miami Police Department has been offered a $100,000 grant from the United States Department of Justice, through the Florida ,Department of, Community Affairs, to implement a Crime Information Conversion System within the City of Miami as mandated by Florida Statute 943.05. This program must be implemented and on-line by January 1, 1Q88. This amendment will provide the funds necessary for the Police - Department to obtain the professional expertise required to completely re -write the Computer Assisted Report Entry System (CARE). In an effort to expedite this program, it is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached appropriation ordinance.
