HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-87-0928J-87-889' 9/30/87 RESOLUTION NO. 87 -9;a8_ A RESOLUTION RATIFYING, APPROVING AND ` CONFIRMING THE ACTION OF THE CITY MANAGER IN ACCEPTING A ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR ($100,000.00) MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM CONVERSION GRANT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, THROUGH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPLEMENTING A CRIME INFORMATION SYSTEM CONVERSION WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI AS MANDATED BY FLORIDA STATUTE 943.05; ALLOCATING FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE HUNDRED SIXTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($116,000.00)J FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S FY' 87-88 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING MATCHING FUNDS TO IMPLEMENT THIS PROJECT. WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice, through the Florida Department of Community Affairs, has awarded the City of Miami a $100,000 grant to ensure the Miami Police Department complies with standards developed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in establishing a statewide Crime Information System within the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, this grant program is scheduled to operate for the period from June 1, 1987 , through February 29, 1988; and WHEREAS, under Florida Statute 943.05, the state is mandating the development of new uniform forms to ensure compliance with the mandates concerning the collection, submission and standardization of data to be analyzed by the informational system maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement; and WHEREAS, this grant will provide the funds necessary for the Miami Police Department to completely rewrite its Computer Assisted Report Entry System (CARE); and WHEREAS, funds to cover the cash match are available in the Miami Police Department's FY'87-88 Capital Improvement Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The action of the City Manager in applying for and accepting the grant application from the United States Department of Justice, through the Florida Department of Community Affairs, in the amount of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) to ensure the Miami.. Funds in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Sixteen Thousand Dollars ($116,000) are hereby allocated from the Miami Police Department's FY '87-88 Capital Improvement Program to provide matching funds for the implementation of the Crime Information System Conversion. O d i o REFERENCES: City Manager ENCLOSURES: BSCORNENDATIOM: It is recommended that a resolution be adopted ratifying, approving and confirming the action of the City Manager in accepting a One Hundred Thousand Dollar ($100,000.00) Miami Police Department Information System Conversion Grant from the Department of Justice through the Florida Department of Community Affairs, for the purpose of establishing a Crime Information System within the City of Miami as mandated by Florida Statute 943.05; allocating funds, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Sixteen Thousand Dollars ($116,000.00) from the Police Department's FY '87-88 Capital Improvement Program for the purpose of providing matching funds to implement this project. BACKGROUND: The City of Miami Police Department has been offered a $100,000.00 grant from the United States Department of Justice, _ through the Florida Department of Community Affairs, to establish a Crime Information System within the City of Miami as mandated by Florida Statue 943.05. This program must be implemented and on-line by January 1, 1988. This grant will provide the funds necessary for the Police Department to obtain the professional expertice required to completely re -write the Computer Assisted Report Entry System (CARP). Funds are available from the Police Department's FY '87-88 Capital Improvement Program to provide the required cash match for the implementation of the Miami Police Department Crime Information System.
