RECOMMENDATION:
The enabling legislation adopted on February 22, 1979, which
created the Health Facilities Authority, provided for the
appointment of five individuals to the Authority. Although terms
for Vice Chairman T. Willard Fair, and member Bruno Barreira,
Jr., expired on June 3, 1987, members are authorized to serve
until their successors are appointed. Accordingly, these two
vacancies with terms expiring June 3, 1991, need to be filled.
The incumbent appointments were made by Commissioners Dawkins and
Kennedy.
It is respectfully recommended that the attached Resolution
appointing two individuals as members of the City of Miami,
Florida Health Facilities Authority, be adopted.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Miami, Florida Health Facilities Authority provides
tax-exempt financings for hospitals and other health facilities
located in the City. Tax-exempt financings carry lower interest
rates than conventional financings, thereby making services
provided by such institutions more affordable to patients.
