Samuel Hudson Latimore
Bio
Professor Samuel H. Latimore has been involved in several human services and criminal justice
careers since the 1960's. He started his career at the Miami Dade Youth Hall as a childcare
worker. He worked for several organizations focusing on improving the lives of residents of
Miami Dade and Broward counties.
He has held the position of Superintendent of the Pompano Detention Center (Broward County)
and was appointed the Superintendent of the Dade County Youth Center for Delinquent Youth.
He was instrumental in the relocation of the Secure Juvenile Detention Center from 201h Street
location to the new secured Detention Complex on 3rd St and 271h Ave.
After 10 years of working in Secured Detention Centers, he held positions of Single Intake
Officer, Processing and Supervising —Delinquent Youth.
In 1982 he was selected to be a Faculty Member at the Southeast Institute of Criminal Justice.
He was responsible for the Human Behavior Curriculum and Youth Services. He was appointed
to the position of Chairperson —Behavior Sciences Unit.
Professor Latimore was then appointed Associate Director of the Police and Corrections
Program where he was responsible for the Basic Academy Training Program, as well as the In -
Service program for Corrections and Police.
During this time, Professor Latimore attended an Eleven (11) Month Police Training Program
where he received his Law Enforcement Certification. He was promoted to Major —Division
Chief, County Services Division responsible for Neighborhood Environment, Handling the
Mentally III partnering with Code Enforcement and Police Works for Neighborhood Delinquency
and Safety.
Professor Latimore Retired from Miami Dade College after 25 years of service in 200.4.
He was a Certified FDLE Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Chemical Agents, and Human Biversity
Instructor.
Professor Latimore is a graduate of Northwestern High School, Miami Dade Com=,.hity College
and St. Thomas College with Bachelor of Art and a Master's Degree.`r
He is the Co -President of the Charles Hadley Neighborhood Association, AARP, and several
other organizations.
