HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-87-1103J-87-1100 12/10/87 RESOLUTION NO. 87--1103 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE RICOH SAN-AI GROUP ("RICOH"), IN A FORM AND SUBSTANCE ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, SETTING FORTH THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF A $300,000 GRANT FROM RICOH AS PARTIAL FUNDING FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE CITY'S JAPANESE GARDEN LOCATED ON WATSON ISLAND; AND FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO PRESENT SAID AGREEMENT TO THE CITY COMMISSION FOR CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL PRIOR TO ITS EXECUTION. WHEREAS, The Japanese Garden located on City -owned Watson Island is in need of restoration to revitalize its unique landscape for use and enjoyment by the residents of the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, on July 23, 1987, the City of Miami Commission - adopted Resolution No. 87-742, declaring its desire and intent to support the restoration, operation and maintenance of The Japanese Garden; and I WHEREAS, the total cost of renovating The Japanese Garden as proposed by Ricoh and the City is estimated not to exceed an amount of $500,000; and WHEREAS, Ricoh has offered a $300,000 grant to the City to partially fund the renovation of The Japanese Garden in accordance with a conceptual design plan to be approved by Ricoh and the City; and WHEREAS, an amount of $200,000 is available as a match for the Ricoh grant as appropriated in Capital Improvements Appropriations Ordinance No. 10347 to Project No. 331317 entitled "Japanese Garden Renovation," adopted by the City Commission on November 12, 1987; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: FIMIEETING COMMISSION OF DEC 10 1987ION NO- i_ Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to negotiate an agreement with the Ricoh San-ai Group ("Ricoh"), in a form and substance acceptable to the City Attorney, setting = forth the terms and conditions of a $300,000 grant from Ricoh for the renovation of the City's Japanese Garden located on Watson Island. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby directed to present said agreement to the City Commission for consideration and approval prior to its execution. Ricoh's founder, Mr. Kiyoshi lchimura, donated the Garden to the laity in iybi. Ricon has expressed a desire to partiaily fund the renovation of the now deteriorated Garden. The total cost of the Japanese Garden's renovation is estimated nt 45UU,000. The balance of the funding, ti2UU,000, is available as a match for Ricon's grant as appropriated by the capital Improvements appropriation Urdinance No. lU.i47 to project #jj ijO entitled "Japanese Garden Renovation".
